Globally, anaemia is most frequently caused by iron deficiency. Whereas, nutritional deficiencies, such as a lack of folic acid, iron or vitamin B12 are other causes of adolescent anaemia.
The Interact Club of Kundan International School organised a workshop for the students on “Anaemia in Children and Adolescents.” Dr Manjushri Sharma (MBBS, MHM, PhD) explained to the gathering what happens when a person’s haemoglobin level is low or their red blood cell count is out of the ordinary. Red blood cells include a protein called haemoglobin, which is crucial because it provides a surface to oxygen to adhere to.
